GEO

SEO vs GEO — what's the difference?

In short

SEO optimizes to rank in a list of search results a person then clicks. GEO optimizes to be the source an AI engine cites inside a single synthesized answer. SEO competes for position on a page; GEO competes for inclusion in the answer itself. The strongest programs do both.

Same goal, different surface

Both disciplines exist to make sure qualified buyers find you. The difference is where the visibility happens. SEO earns a position in a ranked list of pages; the buyer chooses which to click. GEO earns a mention inside an AI-generated answer; the engine has already done the choosing on the buyer's behalf.

Why you can't treat them as separate

The same foundations — a crawlable site, clear topical authority, accurate structured data, and content that answers real questions — feed both. But GEO adds requirements SEO never had: being concise and extractable, building entity associations models rely on, and earning citations across the sources AI engines read.

For industrial companies with long, technical buying cycles, showing up in both places is how you stay on the shortlist from the first AI query to the final RFQ.
